What Are PT100 and PT1000 Temperature Sensors?

PT100 and PT1000 are platinum resistance temperature detectors (RTDs) used for accurate temperature measurement.

The electrical resistance of the sensing element changes predictably with temperature. A connected controller or measurement system uses this change in resistance to determine the temperature.

The main difference between the two sensor types is their nominal resistance at 0°C:

PT100: 100 Ω at 0°C
PT1000: 1000 Ω at 0°C

Both are widely used where stable and reliable temperature measurements are required.

Because a PT1000 has a higher resistance, the resistance of the connecting wires generally has less influence on the measurement than with a PT100.

However, the most important consideration is compatibility with the controller or measurement system.

Temperature Measurement in Demanding Environments

A temperature sensor may have to do much more than simply measure temperature.

In agricultural and industrial applications, sensors can be exposed to dust, moisture, temperature fluctuations, cleaning and electrical interference. Reliable temperature measurement therefore depends on choosing a sensor designed for the conditions in which it will operate.

dol-sensors' temperature sensors are developed for demanding environments where robust construction, reliable measurements and long service life are important.

Temperature Sensors
Learn how continuous monitoring helps producers identify developing production challenges through changes in water consumption, growth performance and other key production indicators.

Made for Your Livestock Houses

One of the most important things in livestock farming is that the temperature inside the house is right. Both pigs and chickens are quite volnarable when it comes to temperature fluctuations and need different room temperatures according to their age. If the temperature is too low the animals might eat more and crowd together to keep warm. If the temperature is too high the animals might feel dizzy or dehydraded, making them drink more water and eat less. This affects the FCR (Feed Consumption Rate) and thus the outcome of the production.

Why Do You Need Temperature Sensors?

Temperature is vital to agricultural production and animal welfare. Temperature sensors are placed inside livestock houses to measure the temperature. They are used by farmers and farm managers to keep track of the temperature and make sure the animals stay comfortable and do not overheat or freeze. Connecting temperature sensors to the farm controller makes it possible to automatically adjust the ventilation accordingly. In this way, an optimum climate is ensured with the lowest energy costs posible.

Which Type of Temperature Sensor Should You Choose?

When monitoring the climate in livestock houses, it is essential that the sensors you choose gives you accurate measurements and have a long lifetime. A high-quality sensor is designed to with-stand the harch environment in the farm building where high humidity, and high levels of dust, ammonia, and CO2 will affect the sensor. The sensor should be realiable and still work accurately after years of impact from the surrounding environment.

Reliable measurements are essential to ensure the optimum climate and avoid high temperature swings causing higher mortality.

Accurate Measurements
Learn how continuous monitoring helps producers identify developing production challenges through changes in water consumption, growth performance and other key production indicators.

Accurate Measurements

In the modern age of agriculture, precision and efficiency are paramount to ensure sustainable production and animal welfare. Our sensors play a crucial role in monitoring and managing various parameters, ranging from temperature and humidity to air quality and feed consumption. The accuracy of measurements from these sensors is of utmost importance, as it directly impacts the well-being of animals, operational efficiency, and overall farm productivity.

Enhancing Animal Welfare

The well-being of animals is a top priority for ethical and efficient livestock farming. Accurate sensor measurements help maintain optimal environmental conditions within livestock houses. Our DOL 114 temperature and humidity sensor, for instance, ensure that animals are kept in a comfortable climate, reducing stress and minimizing the risk of diseases. Animals that are exposed to extreme temperature fluctuations are more susceptible to illnesses, and this can lead to economic losses for farmers or farm managers as well. By continuously monitoring these conditions and making necessary adjustments, farmers can ensure the comfort and health of their livestock.

Climate Sensors That Fit All Farm Controllers

Easy Integration Across Different Systems

One of the challenges many farmers face is integrating new sensors into existing farm management systems. When climate sensors are compatible with all major farm controllers, upgrades and replacements become much simpler. This gives producers greater flexibility when expanding facilities, replacing aging equipment, or standardizing sensor solutions across multiple farms.

Our climate sensors fit all farm controller, which makes it easy to install them no matter what controller you are using. They easily replace other climate sensors as well.

Climate sensors from dol-sensors are specially designed for the harsh environment in livestock houses. They are robust and last longer since they are protected against dust, high humidity, temperature swings and high levels of ammonia.
