DOL 114 is a robust and accurate 2-in-1 sensor for livestock houses

According to a study*, livestock housing must provide favorable environmental conditions to ensure animal health and welfare. The study states that to reach the best environmental conditions inside a building, it is necessary to apply advanced control systems and effective control techniques.

The DOL 114 humidity and temperature sensor is a high-precision sensor for measuring both relative humidity and temperature simultaneously. It is engineered and build for livestock houses but is also well suited for several industrial applications. The sensor has the same excellent properties as the DOL 104 digital humidity sensor.

By monitoring both humidity and temperature, the DOL 114 ensures that the air is optimized for breathing and the formation of mold is avoided.

Temperature Has a Huge Effect on Animal Welfare

Temperature is without question the single most important parameter to monitor when it comes to optimum conditions in livestock production.

If the temperature is too high, feed consumption drops which causes decreased weight gain, a very costly effect to producers. Animals can suffer and may increase mortality rates, another very costly aspect to high temperatures.

If the temperature is too low, most of the feed intake will go to keeping the animals warm instead of growth rates, which leads to production loss.

DOL 114 Can Prevent Ammonia Formation

High humidity levels in poultry production can lead to formation of ammonia which have severe impact on animal welfare, mortality rate, and FCR. You can read more about ammonia in poultry in this article on Ammonia Sensor Poultry here.

Due to the built-in filter and the sensor element makes DOL 114 very suitable for application in environments with constantly high humidity. A protective cap is available for DOL 114, eliminating the need to remove the sensor when cleaning the livestock house.

You can use the award-winning DOL 53 Ammonia Sensor, to measure the level of ammonia in poultry. Read more about the DOL 53 ammonia sensor and its benefits and advantages here.

FAQ

How does a humidity and temperature sensor work?

A humidity sensors can work in different ways. One is be the use of a special polymer which can easily absorb moisture. A capacity of the polymer is measures and the humidity is calculated.

A temperature sensor like DOL 114 and DOL 104 measures temperature through a calibrated component. The voltage is measured and converted to temperature.

Where should a humidity sensor be places?

To ensure an optimum measurement of the humidity in livestock houses, DOL 114 humidity and temperature sensor should be placed in the middle of the stable, where that the airflow is higher than against the wall and as close to the animals as possible.

What is the use of a humidity and temperature sensor in agriculture?

Humidity and temperature sensors like DOL 114 are used in agriculture to avoid extreme warm and cold temperatures, livestock stress, and poor production as well as the formation of ammonia and mold du to high humidity.

How accurate are humidity sensors?

DOL 114 is a very accurate humidity and temperature sensor. For the 10V variant the sensor has an accuracy of + 2%RH (40 – 85 %) + 3%RH (10-95%) at 0-40°C for the humidity measurement and an accuracy of +10 °C – 40 °C: + 0.5 °C. – 30 °C – 60 °C: + 1.5 °C for the temperature measurement.

What is a humidity and temperature sensor?

Humidity and temperature sensors are some of the most common used climate sensors in the livestock industry. Humidity and temperature sensors are used to monitor the relative humidity and temperature within the barn.

What is the best temperature and humidity sensor?

The best temperature and humidity sensor is one that gives accurate measurements and is robust. In livestock facilities a good temperature and humidity sensor must withstand dust, high humidity, temperature fluctuations, a high level of ammonia and high-pressure cleaning. DOL 114 humidity and temperature sensor has all these advantages.
